Care of our Chickens

Free range hens, enjoying their feed outdoors

Our chickens are organic.

Organic chickens are fed special feed for the duration of their life (which is very expensive), are not given antibiotics or other 'additives' during their lifetime. The feed itself must be free from all pesticides and chemical interference, hence the additional cost. Because the birds are reared in a free-range manner they do not suffer the same stresses as their factory cousins, they are naturally healthy and develop their own immune systems to fight disease.

Our chickens have full access to the fields around their enclosures, only coming indoors at night (to keep them safe from predators) and enjoy a vast amount of space compared to their 'factory farmed' cousins. They have their own heirarchy or what we refer to as the 'pecking order' and do not suffer the stress related problems of factory chickens as they are given the space to breathe, live and enjoy life on the farm.

The chickens are slaughtered at the farm to spare them the stress of the journey. They are slaughtered by suitably qualified slaughterman to current DEFRA standards.

In addition to our fabulous range of Chickens and joints, we also have an extensive range of organic Beef , Lamb, Mutton and Pork available to purchase either through one of our retailers, or online at our secure shop

This enables us to provide you with tender, succulent meat to grace any table 'a cut above the rest', so put us to the test
