Who and where are we?
Bridge End Farm, Santon BridgeCountry Cuts Quality Meat is produced at Bridge End Farm, Santon Bridge near Holmrook, Cumbria. The farm nestles on the plateau between the Irish Sea and the stunning Wasdale Valley in the beautiful Lake District National Park and enjoys a unique natural setting of clover and herb enriched meadows through which the River Irt meanders, unchanged and unspoilt for hundreds of years.
Country Cuts is run by Jason and Nicky Phizacklea. Jason's family have been in farming for generations.
Both are dedicated to their livestock and the continuing sustainability of the land around them. They show enthusiasm and care about the quality of life of the animals and are the determined to produce delicious high quality meats.
The decision to follow an organic style of farming seemed the natural thing to do in the light of the mistrust and uncertainties surrounding the production of meat.
Jason and Nicky want to hark back to a gentler and healthier way of life but with the advantage and convenience of modern technology. No chemical sprays are used to rid the farm of weeds that the animals will not eat, but they are cut by mechanical means.
Bridge End Farm is in the Environmentally Sensitive Area Scheme and they have recently replanted miles of hedges and dykes so in the fullness of time they will provide a natural habitat for some of England's unique wildlife and birds.
Several ponds and small lakes have already been created attracting wild fowl of all descriptions including, water hens, water rails and even the occasional osprey. The whole combination encourages the return of wildlife of all forms and assists the natural biodiversity. |
