What is traditional farming?

Traditional refers to agricultural production systems used to produce foods. Many kinds of foods and other products are produced traditionally, including grains, meat, dairy, eggs, cotton, flowers, and some processed food products.
 
Traditional farming management develops 'biological diversity' in the field to disrupt the habitat for pest organisms, and ensure the purposeful maintenance and replenishment of soil fertility.
 
Traditional farmers must not use synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
 
Traditional Farmers must:
 
develop a plan that describes the practices used in producing crops and livestock products;
 
maintain a detailed recordkeeping system that tracks all products from the field to point of sale;
 
ensure maintenance of what are called 'buffer zones' to prevent inadvertent contamination from adjacent conventional fields.
